Prevention, Treatment, and Community Engagement for an Effective TB and HIV/AIDS Response in Ukraine

Objective

To implement comprehensive measures to address HIV and tuberculosis among key populations by expanding access to prevention, timely detection, and treatment services, as well as introducing innovative, people-centered models of medical and social service delivery for hard-to-reach groups.

Key Activities and Program Components

Within this project, AUCO Convictus Ukraine implements a set of interconnected program components aimed at the prevention, early detection, and treatment of HIV and tuberculosis, as well as reducing risks associated with psychoactive substance use.

Main program components include:

  2. Opioid overdose prevention, including awareness-raising and access to harm reduction services;
  3. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for representatives of key populations;
  4. HIV prevention services tailored to the specific needs of transgender people;
  5. Optimized Case Finding (OCF) among sex workers;
  6. Community-based case management and treatment support (CITI) for HIV-positive clients to ensure adherence to treatment;
  7. HIV self-testing for sexual partners of people who inject drugs, sex workers, men who have sex with men, and transgender people;
  8. Mobile clinics providing HIV testing and prevention services for key populations;
  9. Social support for patients receiving opioid substitution therapy (OST), including psychosocial support;
  10. Detection of new cases of tuberculosis and drug-resistant tuberculosis among high-risk groups (people experiencing homelessness, formerly incarcerated individuals, members of Roma communities, and internally displaced persons).
