Protection and Mental Health of Vulnerable Children in Ukraine • Phase 1

Objective

To reduce psycho-emotional stress in families affected by the war and within the “children–parents–community” dynamic through the implementation of comprehensive, structured psychosocial interventions for children and parents. The project aims to support mental health, restore resilience, and create safe conditions for children’s development.

Key Activities

Within the project, AUCO Convictus Ukraine provides structured psychosocial services for children and adults, including:

  • • delivery of psychosocial support (PSS) interventions for women using structured methodologies, including Self-Help Plus (SH+) and a proprietary stress management course;
  • • implementation of group sessions for children based on the SESAME methodology;
  • • provision of individual psychological counseling for women, including parenting support, following participation in structured interventions;
  • • strengthening parenting skills and improving family interaction in the context of crisis and traumatic experiences.

Target Groups

  • • children residing in social and psychological support centers, crisis centers, and temporary accommodation facilities (with a focus on internally displaced persons and affected local populations);
  • • children whose parents serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine or are veterans;
  • • children experiencing ambiguous loss;
  • • mothers — clients of social and psychological support centers, crisis centers, and temporary accommodation facilities;
  • • families with children from affected communities in Kharkiv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions in need of psychosocial support.

Geographical Coverage

Kharkiv Region — Lozova and Blyzniuky territorial communities;
Ivano-Frankivsk Region — Verkhovyna and Zelene territorial communities.

The project “Protection and Mental Health of Vulnerable Children in Ukraine” is implemented in partnership with SOS Children’s Villages Ukraine with financial support from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad).
