Improving HIV Case Detection and Access to Treatment Among People at High Risk of HIV Infection
Objective
To expand access to HIV treatment among people at high risk of HIV infection and their partners through effective community-based HIV case detection and comprehensive social support.
The activities also aim to strengthen adherence to antiretroviral therapy in order to achieve viral load suppression, as well as to motivate behavior change through harm reduction and risk reduction approaches.
Target Groups
People at high risk of HIV infection and their partners.
Key Activities
Under this program, AUCO Convictus Ukraine implements a comprehensive model of prevention, timely HIV detection, and treatment support tailored to the needs of people at high risk of HIV infection and their partners. The activities promote responsible health-seeking behavior and contribute to positive social norm change within communities.
The program provides assisted HIV self-testing services and ensures effective engagement in testing through modern outreach approaches. When necessary, participants are referred to other social and healthcare institutions according to their individual needs.
Social support includes confirmation of positive test results, assistance with required diagnostics, timely referral to treatment and initiation of antiretroviral therapy, as well as adherence support, particularly during the first year of treatment — a critical period for achieving an undetectable viral load.
The program integrates awareness-raising, support in diagnosis and treatment, and motivation to reduce risks and maintain treatment adherence.
Geographical Coverage
Kyiv City and Kyiv Region.
Partnership and Support
The program is implemented with the support of the International Charitable Foundation “Alliance for Public Health” and funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
